Atheni Beach is located in the northeastern part of Andros, 12 km from Batsi. It is basically two beautiful sandy beaches: Arriving at the gulf of Ateni, the visitor meets on the left the main Ateni beach, which is also the most popular as it is well protected from the meltemia (winds). However, the area of Ateni covers all tastes as a short distance to the right one can swim in the deep blue waters of a second larger sandy beach called Lefka. This beach is less well known and so attractive to tourists who looking for more secluded beaches to swim.
The way to Beach Ateni
To go to Ateni beach, just take the main road to Chora, driving from Gavrio and turn left to the relative junction at the height of Bats, towards to the village of Katakilos. Within 12 km you will reach your destination. Arriving in the village below Katakilos, always in the asphalt section of the route, turn left again to the village of Atheni and its beach with the same name. Most of the route is asphalt and only in the last 2-3 km before the beach the road becomes dirt, but in general it is fairly passable.
A beach like a pool
The main features of Atheni beach and its nearby beach of “Lefka” are its turquoise shallow waters as well as the sand dunes. Both beaches are naturally sandy. Essentially, Atenι looks like a shallow swimming pool as it takes a lot of walking until it gets deep. This feature turns the beach into an ideal “playground” for both kids and adults. Finally, it should be noted that at the beach of Ateni there is a somewhat new beach bar.
