In Riva’s square, on the lower edge of Chora dominates the statue of the Afanis Naftis (missing sailor), in honor to all sailors who have lost their lives in the sea. It is an art work of Michael Tombrou, donated by the Goulandris family. It was placed on its pedestal on November 5, 1959 and remained immovable until April 30, 2001 where a strong wind threw it on the marbles of the square. After the necessary repair, it was put in place. It is a statue of legend and an attraction for visitors. A trademark and classic place commemorative and souvenir photos for all visitors to the island.
